Organized in collaboration with International Society for Horticultural Science (the Commission Plant Protection and the Commission Substrates and Soilless Culture) and BSHS, the Benelux Society for Horticultural Science.
Objectives
A general trend in plant protection, and soil disinfestation in particular, is the pressure to reduce the chemical input and to pay more attention to the development of innovative disease control strategies and the enhancement of plant health.
Our aim is to collect and disseminate state of the art information on soil and substrate disinfestation based on current and ongoing research for growers and applicators, but also for decision makers in agricultural legislation, to develop economically viable and environmentally sound plant production. Replacement of methyl bromide by different alternatives is worldwide still a hot topic.
The programme will include oral and poster presentations on topics dealing with fundamental and practical aspects of integrated and biological control of soil-borne pathogens, solarization and biofumigation, detection and quantification of pests and diseases, use of novel chemicals and alternatives such as substrates, soilless cultures and hydroponics.
Location
Leuven is centrally situated in Belgium and very close to historical cities like Brussels (30 km), Antwerp (70 km), Ghent (100 km) and Bruges (130 km). Brussels Airport is only at 25 km and there is a direct railway connection. Leuven, a real “student city” also hosts the Catholic University of Leuven.
The symposium venue will be in Collegium De Valk, DV3 Auditorium 01.13, Tiensestraat 41, 3000 Leuven. This is in the real centre of Leuven, 5 minutes walking distance from Leuven Railway Station and Leuven Town Hall.
